Navigating the NHS can be challenging – CIWA, CREST, MSF, VTE, MRSA… 🤯

OptimiseIMG is here to guide you through the unique complexities of the NHS system and help you build your strategy to efficiently progress through your career goals. 🪜 Don’t get lost in the system – you’ve come here with a purpose, let us help you achieve it!

PLAB ✅ but how do I get into training?

Passing PLAB is a big step. But it’s only the first hurdle…

How do get ready to compete against top UK graduates for a training number in your specialty when the bottlenecks are so tight (and getting tighter). The competition ratios are brutal for every specialty. So you have to give yourself the best chance to understand and win in a foreign system. We provide the insights to build your foundation to take that next step.

You have the knowledge, now get the experience. Fast

Learn directly from top IMGs and trainees that have gone through the process and are now thriving.

We’ve gathered all the knowledge and insider tips from our Faculty and peers about how to overcome the obstacles and truly succeed in the NHS. We cover what they won’t tell you on Induction Day (yes, there is more than just Fire Safety) including practical tips from dozens of trainees from your specialty that have gone through it. How to refer to the Medical Registrar, how to work with the MDT and ace your ePortfolio, all from Day 1.

Any questions?

I’ve passed PLAB – why do I need your package before starting work in the NHS?

Passing PLAB proves your medical knowledge, but NHS practice has unique systems, roles, and unwritten rules that can be overwhelming at first. Our package bridges the gap with over 100 on-demand videos, specialty-specific guidance, and insider tips from IMGs already in training posts — so you’re confident from Day 1.

What kind of support will I get outside the on-demand videos?

You’ll have access to a dedicated WhatsApp community where you can ask questions directly to faculty and other IMGs in the system. We also run regular Seminars and will be soon launching our Course (which you will be registered for)

Is this worth it if I’m not sure which specialty I want to pursue?

Yes. The core induction applies to any NHS role, and early exposure to different specialties through our packs can help you decide. Even if you change your mind later, you’ll already have the foundations to succeed in whichever path you choose.

I’ve worked as a doctor in my home country – won’t I already know most of this?

Your medical knowledge will be solid, but the NHS runs on different pathways, scoring systems, referral routes, and legal frameworks. Even experienced doctors can lose time and confidence while learning these on the job. Our package compresses years of trial-and-error into a 6-month learning plan.

How will OptimiseIMG help me secure a UK training number?

Competition for training posts can be intense, with many specialties having more applicants than places. We give you strategies to build your CV from the start — including QIPs, portfolio evidence, audit, leadership roles, and interview prep — so you’re ready to compete.

Do I get help with specialty-specific career planning?

Yes. In addition to the general induction, you get specialty-specific packs created by IMGs already in your target training programme, covering portfolio requirements, interview tips, and pitfalls to avoid.

How long do I have access once I sign up?

Your subscription gives you 6 months of unlimited access to the full video library, specialty packs, and community groups. Many members complete the induction before starting NHS work, then revisit it during their first months on the job. We are building our Alumni programme so when you ‘graduate’ from OptimiseIMG you can stay in touch with our Network.

Is this just clinical knowledge, or will I learn about career progression and NHS processes too?

It’s comprehensive. We cover prescribing, acute care, and emergencies and non-clinical essentials like ePortfolio, governance, referrals, on-call tips, discharge planning, and working with the MDT. These are the areas IMGs often struggle with but aren’t covered in PLAB. We are constantly expanding our Faculty and Library- so if you think there’s anything missing, just email us!

Will this help me with on-calls/ward work?

Absolutely. We cover practical essentials — how to prescribe warfarin, fluid balance assessment, how to hand over to the medical registrar, and what the on call expectations — so you avoid early mistakes and make a great first impression.
